Class Teaser Trailer Feedback

Today in class we watched everyones rough copies of the teaser trailers. We all were to give feedback to each of them explaining what we did and did not like about it, if it made actual sense or not, and some overall notes on their trailer.

Here is the list of peoples' feedback that I had given them.

name: Minnie
like: The change between the different personalities and the shots to determine that.
dislike: Sometimes its not clear that it was the same person, also are they a gambler?
made sense: yes but can be a little bit clearer

name: Bella
like: the music, the shots all make sense, theme is clear
dislike: Maybe you have too many shots of knives, maybe even put some “blood” on them to give a reason for cleaning them. Or maybe even rather than cleaning them under the sink they can use a cloth that gets bloodier and bloodier each time!
made sense: yes, perfect sense
notes: you can make the exposure darker to emphasise the theme

name: Alex
like: Clear it was about a politician, loves the fading into the next shots
dislike: Some shots weren’t in there so it didn’t make much sense but it will when the shots have been taken
made sense: slightly
notes: Music was great and enhanced the mood of the trailer

name: Kartya
like: the creativity of each of the shots, I would definitely watch it as a movie
dislike: the quality can be a little bit better, but I’m not sure if the bad quality was intended
made sense: yes, it was very clear
notes: My only suggestion would be that maybe somehow you can make the process of the doll possessing her clearer. You could make the girls eyes start bleeding the same way after she had tried wiping them off the dolls?

name:  Elizabeth
like: The black and white shots and several angles you used
dislike:  At the beginning the music sounded creepy but towards the end you sort of represent her as a hero and not a villain, this got me a little bit confused
made sense: yes, but slightly unsure if the Mystery mask is good or bad
notes: You hadn’t shown the whole of the characters face at the end, only the mask

name: Ellythea
like: it had a few really interesting shots and the missing shots written in seem like they would go really well with what you have
dislike: I don’t know what it is about really
made sense: slightly, it is about a girl who is stressing but I don’t know why
notes: The underexposure was really good

name: Tanay
like: it really made sense and I liked the use of shadows
dislike: Sometimes it had some bad quality and I’m not sure if this was intended
made sense: yes

name: Portia
like: the shots really show that this woman is rich and the character profile is really clear
dislike: Some shots that were in slo-mo kinda dragged it on a little bit too much
made sense: yes!

name: Holly
like: the storyline was really funny and the shots used were very creative
dislike: Some shots were bad quality, not sure if this was intended
made sense: yes

name: Nadia
like: The storyline is great, I would watch the movie
dislike: The pictures could have been videos because then it gives us more to watch and look at
made sense: yes
notes: you can also put it in underexposure to make it more scary-like

name: Michelle
like: the storyline is easy to follow
dislike: some shots were bad quality, not sure if this was intended
made sense: yes, very clear
notes:  maybe when you reveal that she is a killer the exposure could be darker to change the mood

name: Abby
like: The storyline is easy to follow
dislike: The quality of some shots were not good quality
made sense: Yes
notes: Sometimes the colour of each shot is really different, try to even them out

name: Clarrisa
like: The characterisation of the dancer and how you had shots of the makeup
dislike: I wouldn’t know what the story would be about, also you might want to make some of the make up shots shorter. There also wasn’t enough shots
made sense: it was clear that she was a dancer
notes: you could use lots of angles and lights to represent her character in a greater depth: eg, what is her personality, does she do it as a job or a hobby or

name: Chloe
like: the flashing of the character while they were walking to show that they’re sort of a spirit was really cool
dislike: there just wasn’t enough shots
made sense: where are they going and who/what are they? it will probably make more sense when you finish all of your shots

notes: you could add some suspenseful music in the background

Brainstorming, FTVNM Task, Term 1

This is the document that I referred to when I was sparking ideas, built on them and chose what storyline I wanted to go with.

Brainstorming on a piece of paper on on a document really helps when beginning with a creative project like this one. Especially when you have way too many cool ideas and you don't know where to start!

Character Profile Paragraph, FTVNM Task, Term 1

This is a 300+ word paragraph about what you need to know about my character in my Trailer Task.

20/02/15
Character Profile:

Born in New York and living the Los Angeles city-life, the extroverted Paris Page isn’t your typical perfect and flawless 16-year-old school girl. Although sometimes she can get too competitive without realising it, she has the determination and concentration of a hawk. Her stunning grey eyes have everyone hypnotised in her spell. She’s got flawless pale skin, and highly-maintained brown hair. Everyone knows that Paris is an all-rounder; she is the star of the basketball team, highly intelligent and loves playing any sport. Because she does so many co-curricular activities, she knows so many people from so many different cliques and everyone loves her. But sometimes, because of her nature, people can get really envious of her, yet she doesn’t dislike anyone despite this. She lives in a large expensive mansion with her parents, 3 older and 2 younger siblings. Although she was brought up in a wealthy and hard-working family, her parents are always busy and hardly have time to spend with her causing a distanced relationship between them. This sometimes causes her to be in an emotionally unstable state, but she does her best to hide this. When Paris can’t go to her parents to talk, she likes to run around the neighbourhood to burn off some calories and train for her next upcoming sporting event. Her life goal is to become a professional athlete or to teach because she loves working with people. Her short-term goal is to win the state basketball championship. Paris has a great view on life. She doesn’t care about listen to the haters and knows that she can do whatever she puts her mind to. But to fail miserably with so many high expectations of herself would thoroughly embarrass her.

Fairy God Mother Activity

Today, we took what we knew about the average "Fairy God Mother" and switched it around to something totally opposite and interesting.

This activity helped us ignite our creativity in thinking about a non-cliché character.

What we know about a fairy god mother
Some things that we know all fairy god mother's obviously are
  • a woman
  • sweet
  • usually old
  • wise
  • powerful
  • gentle
  • understanding
  • helpful
  • shows up when protagonist is in trouble
  • hypothetically magical
  • small in size
My fairy god father
(A trailer that I come up with that will shock the audience and make them feel the urge to watch the rest of the movie.)

  1. long shot of a person sitting in their lounge room, they aren’t identifiable, sitting back with feet up and watching television
  2. revealing can of coca cola spilt on the floor
  3. close-up on a packet of potato chips and a hand going in to grab some
  4. over the shoulder shot of the person watching television
  5. panning shot revealing the mess and crumbs on the lounge room floor
  6. close-up of their mouth, chewing loudly on their potato chips
  7. shot revealing only their legs and a can of coca cola in their hand
  8. over the shoulder shot of them drinking their coca cola
  9. long shot showing the full length of a middle aged man on his couch eating his potato chips, he looks into the camera, winks, pulls out his wand from his pocket, waves it and he disappears into dust and sparkles

First Shotlist, FTVNM Task, Term 1

Shotlists are very helpful for when you are filming a project that requires many shots. I had made a shortlist before I started filming and it really helped me make sure that I hadn't forgotten to take any shots and it assisted me in become more organised in the progress of it all.

Below is my first copy of the shot list I had made in preparation for the task.
